Discussion about Jon Kennedy - Take My Drum To England
Paster
Jon Kennedy's second album, TAKE MY DRUM TO ENGLAND, first finds Kennedy, on "Funk Construction" taking his drum to a gentle folk-guitar and Mr. Scruff flute-inspired glade. The folksiness continues onto "Do As You Did." A softer, gentler Jon Kennedy? The slow burn of "Blow Keys" would suggest so, but the heavier beats and darkness of "Mystery" start taking the listener in a different direction. But when the vocals of Kate Rogers infiltrates "Secrets of the World," we rocket back into a bucolic world, with the jazz saxophone leaving contrails in the sky. "East is East" offers a little bit of sitar for some South Asian flavor amongst the beats, while "The Loafer" continues with the thicker rhythms. But "A Portrait of Autumn" goes back into the warm, hazy atmosphere, and "Surrenderism" gets the jazz back into the groove. Better still, "Way I Feel" dives straight into soul, with Karen Wilson's powerful vocals. An excellen album all around.
