"A Gilded Eternity" represents, to my mind, the zenith of Loop's approach to scorched-Earth, droning but dynamic and harmonically rich psychedelic rock. Arrangements and production are more sophisticated and inventive than past recordings, and their refined musicianship adds significant depth, power and clarity. And, amazingly, in 2014 there's not a note that sounds remotely dated. This 2014 vinyl reissue, I'm happy to report, is cut at 45 rpm and sounds loud, rich and clear. The bonus 7" sounds excellent as well. The download included with the vinyl gathers together the original album and bonus tracks, the band's third Peel Session, and demo versions of a few album tracks and contemporaneous single "Arc-Lite." This is a worthy and welcome reissue of an album I consider a classic, ripe for rediscovery by those who missed out the first time around.
